The Anit- Portraitist

Marlene Dumas really intrigued me when I was reading about her work and what she does. Also her portrait of herself really pulled me in, because obviously it was her, but it wasn't a realistic portrayal. She also impressed me with the fact that she holds the record for a female of selling one of her pieces for 6.34 million ( LIVING female artist that is). Also I tend to gravitate towards artist who go against the grain, which Marlene definately does. Marlene wants to make the point that you can't read too much into a person's facial features. She states that when she looked at a painting of a murderer she was reminded of Jesus because it was painted with soft strokes. I also like how in her painting called "The Cover-Up" she confronts, and illustrates wonderfully, something that puts people in discomfort right away. Overall like I said before I'm drawn to fearless artist, who go against the grain, and get people growing. I highly recommend reading into her, or even just looking at her work. I'm sure you'll feel the same.

Our Shapes Project

I really enjoyed the shapes project we did in our class. It really helped me become more familiar
with adobe illustrator. Also it helped me be more abstract with my work. Here are the final results...
